What's an excellent value staple bottle on your bar? While my preference lies with whiskies, I appreciate spirits across categories (and a well-stocked bar). I discovered Top Shelf Vodka a few years ago and was curious. It's a local craft spirit in an elegant, rectangular bottle that stands out among similar mass-produced options. Top Shelf Vodka has a very subtle scent. There's a refreshing quality, like the pleasant smell of air near water. Imagine ocean spray (...or lake spray for most of us). Its soft flavor has a light sweetness that becomes savory-tangy. Visions of sweet corn with cotija cheese come to mind. This gently fades with a mild tingling sensation on the lips and tongue. Top Shelf Vodka is a very smooth, well-bodied vodka that works well in mixed drinks. There's no discernible aftertaste (nor regret), which is why you'll likely find a bottle of this on my shelf. 8/10
