Tim Smith Southern Reserve Bourbon

The initial tasting wasn't as bad as most reviews suggest, but after several tastes, this whiskey has not aged well at all. The first whiff was quite astringent, reminiscent of high alcohol content with minimal aging. The 24-hour aging process is apparent in a quick pour, but slower pouring seems to enhance the flavors slightly. With small sips, one can detect leather and smoke, but anything more than a mouthful reveals clear, pure rubbing alcohol. This is also evident in the finish, which also requires small sips to be pleasant. Anything more and this bottle lacks flavor and character; stick to small tasting sips throughout.

A strong moonshine taste followed by an off acetone note. It's slightly sickeningly sweet. For the price, there are significantly better bourbons available. I purchased this expecting it to be at least decent. It is not. I should have paid closer attention to the fine print on the back stating it was only aged for 24 hours.

The aroma is yeasty, similar to the glue paste used in elementary school. Heavy corn presence. The burn lingers for a bit. I likely won't try this again. And yes, it correctly states on the back of the bottle that it was only aged for 24 hours. This is for the dedicated connoisseur.

The aroma upon opening the bottle is of yeast and fermenting mash. This serves as your initial warning. When poured into a glass, it looks like cloudy, watered-down lemonade. That's strike two. Its taste has a base flavor of moonshine and yeast. Strike three.

It's not terrible, considering it's 24-hour wood-fired moonshine. It resembles a very bland bourbon that tastes watered down. It's overpriced at its MSRP. For the $15 I paid, it was acceptable. I wouldn't buy it again.
