Thomson South Island Peat Progress Report

A light floral aroma. Sweet grain and flowers, even honey, but a very light and clean finish. A little smoke and subtle wood. Very distinct; a unique single malt, not to be compared to peated scotches. Worth trying for its floral qualities.

Number 3 on the tasting list. The peat presents as younger iodine and rubber. While this style is usually to my liking, they haven't executed it effectively here. It's like a younger, thinner Laphroaig, though it represents progress, so time will tell.

Appearance: Pale straw color, clear, no sediment. Light trails. Nose: Moderate peat, a trace of malt and sweetness. Palate: Iodine, salty. Medicinal. A sweet finish. Subtle... vanilla? Moderate.

Smells: light smoke Body: mint and vanilla Finish: medium and sweet with light smoke Overall, a gentle and well-rounded beverage.
