The Whistler Imperial Stout Cask Finish

The Whistler Imperial Stout Cask Finish possesses one of the most remarkable bottles I've ever encountered. The sleek black bottle complements the artistic label and musical cork. Boann Distillery fills their Whistler 7-year-old Single Malt casks with the distillery's own Boyne Brewhouse Imperial Stout Beer. The casks are then refilled with a blend of their malt and grain whiskey to impart a distinct flavor profile. The Whistler Imperial Stout Cask Finish is triple distilled, non-chill filtered, and bottled at 43% ABV. Color: Deep Copper On the nose are notes of coffee, wet grass, vanilla, creaminess, dark chocolate, maltiness, oak, and corn grains. On the palate are notes of toffee, malt, dark chocolate, and a thick creamy vanilla. The finish is of medium length, slightly shorter than I would prefer, with notes of leather, floral, and vanilla.

A distinct wheat character leads, followed by grassy notes, hints of coffee, dried stone fruit, a touch of cinnamon, and more grassiness toward the finish. The finish is moderately long and lacks strong spice. It's a satisfactory drink, though I likely won't seek it out again, but it's not unpleasant. It certainly possesses more complexity than Jameson or similar common Irish whiskeys, although I suspect other Whistler cask finishes might have been a superior selection.

Amber tone. On the nose, a good Irish spirit. Walnut and orange. Carob. Licorice. A persistent yeast undertone. Tobacco. With time, the sherry note with chocolate becomes predominant. On the palate, earthy, it feels like a Sherry. Light in body. Somewhat spicy. Slight acidity. Lemon-like. Refreshing finish with a lasting astringency in the mouth.

Nose: this promises to be unusual. Body: chocolate Italian soda, malt balls, and dark chocolate. Finish: chocolate transitions to coffee. This is quite unlike any Irish whiskey I've encountered. It's good, though not a flavor profile I typically seek out.

Reminds me a lot of Jameson stout cask. The beer finish is obvious. Other than that at 43% it felt like a very good Irish whiskey. The unmalted barley is present. Very thin, but super drinkable. Enjoyed the hell out of it with my friends.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this, as I wasn't certain what to anticipate. The aroma is wheat-forward with a slight touch of chocolate, leading into a very malty, caramel flavor that concludes with mild bitterness and additional chocolate.
