The Sassenach Wild Scottish Gin

During a recent business trip, I discovered this really nice Scottish Gin. This gin is very gentle and smooth, with subtle juniper notes allowing other flavors to come forward. The aroma is a mix of juniper and ethanol, but these give way to citrus and coriander. The body is decent with a slight burn, but the earthy herbs emerge here, and with a little ice, the gin is nicely softened. The finish is quick with citrus and earthy notes. On the trip, I made several very nice Gin and Tonics, but the gin tended to be diluted. I also made several Negronis with this gin, and it performed well with the other flavors. My only criticism is that the gin is a bit underproofed; otherwise, it's a solid and flavorful gin. Overall, it's a good but not great gin, worth a try. Enjoy.

The smell is very strongly of rubbing alcohol with few gin botanicals pushing through; grassy, medicinal, earthy growing things, with a delicate hint of juniper. It took me a bit to figure out those medicinal grassy bitter floral hints to piece together heather. This adds an astringency I'm not completely happy with, but I don't dislike the expression. Definitely a clean cocktail use for me, like a cold martini or simple G&T.
