The Knot

Found this in the cabinet. Here goes for a 2:30 tasting on a Friday... Nose: Frosted sugar cookie, a touch of ethanol, perhaps some black licorice and peat. The aroma isn't too bad; it's actually quite pleasant how it's simultaneously sweet and earthy. Palate: Peat, abundant peat. And licorice. And maybe some burnt sugar cookie if I really search and try to believe. It's generally quite harsh and not at all appealing. Finish: The initial finish is a disgusting peaty burn. But as it lingers on the tongue it mellows and is less abrasive and awful; I might even describe it as pleasant.

Extremely sweet. Saw it at a bar, and did not grasp its identity. I feel deceived! Begins with very pronounced notes of vanilla and caramel, perhaps honey, and a strong alcohol impact. After the third sip, it tastes like pure banana pudding. I was definitely anticipating something with more complexity, even if it is potent.

Someone brought this to a whiskey tasting, believing it was Irish whiskey. It is misleadingly labeled to suggest it's whiskey, which it absolutely is not. To be fair, it does say liqueur in very small print. Cloyingly sweet. Artificial. Perhaps an orange flavor, but mostly just sugar, and a lot of it.

Very sweet. It was a gift. Drinking it neat, I had to check the bottle, then I realized it's not actually whiskey. It suggests enjoying it without dilution, but I find it palatable with tonic and lime wedges. Not worth seeking out.
