Glenlivet 25 Year

This spirit shows that when major distilleries, those producing over 10 million liters annually (Glenlivet, Macallan, Glenfiddich), excel, the outcome is outstanding. The XXV offers a sensual experience, possibly too flawless in its harmony, leading to slight "monotony," yet it possesses fantastic quality and enjoyment. Grandmother's cake dominates the aroma, accompanied by custard, intensely sweet and perfumed. The taste mirrors the custard, with preserved fruit, orange conserve, and fruit preserved in spirits. A prolonged sherry finish emerges, quite distinct from the palate's sensations. Truly a remarkable drink.

Nose - Spicy vanilla caramel, dark apple/pear juice, dark honey, very faint dark chocolate mint? Taste - Hint of smoky toasted oak, dark chocolate, smoked sea salt on a roasted pear filled dark chocolate candy, golden raisins, toasted spices, hint of tobacco & leather, dark honey, dark caramel, lightly oaky dryness Finish - Lingering toasted spice, wisp of leather/dark chocolate richness, caramel/toffee, mocha Score - 93/100 Final Thoughts - This is what a well-aged Glenlivet should taste like. A pleasant "dark" aroma, with a very complex taste and finish. It evokes images of a dark mahogany library with a gentle wood fire and abundant old books and well-maintained leather furniture. The complex flavor profile and nice "bite" are notable given the lower proof. It's very enjoyable from start to finish with no unpleasant notes. The mouthfeel alone suggests significant aging in oak, and while Glenlivet may not use peated malt, there's an interesting subtle smoky quality that makes it quite compelling. Would I drink it if offered? - Yes Would I specifically order it? - Yes Would I buy a bottle? - Yes, if I could find it around $250

Enjoying a Glenlivet XXV is always a great occasion. It was even better because I managed to get a longtime friend to cover the cost (haha), and I must say this dram was simply amazing. Bottled at 43% ABV, tawny color. On the nose, it was simply great. Elegant, stewed apples. A super nice aroma of pears and definitely some cherries. Incredibly fruity and sweet. Smelled like fruit salad and fresh. Burnt thick caramel, tropical aromas like pineapple and banana. Like BBQ sauce; Dr. Pepper. Papaya, cherry syrup, and strawberry jam. The best aroma ever. On the palate, it was supreme. Red apples, pineapple, cherries. Deliciously sweet caramel. Everything is beautifully crafted. The finish was not as good or complex, but still nice. Ginger; Fruit punch, pineapple, and a slight saltiness. The finish is dry. Overall, this whisky had aromas and flavors that were super clean and accurate. One of the best offerings Glenlivet has, I truly loved this whisky. Complex enough for a special dram, my score for it is 92 out of 100.

If you're lucky enough to find this gem, make sure to gather with your closest friends who enjoy whiskey. Nose: Smells like gooey maraschino cherry Christmas cake. Palate: Brilliant and smooth. Warm and comforting. Very intricate and full-bodied. Finish: It arrives swiftly. And the warmth persists. Over time, the whisky transforms into an intricate bouquet of vanilla, crème brûlée, and a surprise hint of plum that delights the senses. To experience this level of enjoyment, it must sit in a tulip whisky glass neat for at least 20 minutes.

Sampled with a presenter during an event. My notes were not taken at the time, so this recollection is based on memory alone. It was exceptionally smooth yet complex, with sweet, smoky, subtly fruity, and nutty flavors. The finish was also very smooth, concealing its alcohol content, which was barely perceptible due to the remarkable balance demonstrated by the whiskey. Excellent spirit, though on a completely different profile from the 21-year-old.

Astonishing. This is genuinely the most intense dram I've ever experienced on the palate. It swirls in your mouth with an indescribable smoothness. Sherry is prominent, accompanied by cooked fruits and a touch of fresh oakiness. Sugary cherries are also present. The finish is very strong and exceptionally smooth. Incredible, simply incredible. While the 18-year is outstanding, this is truly magical. Rated 100/100.
