About this bottle

This Famous Grouse bottling belongs to the Cask Series, a collection where each release highlights a specific type of barrel used for finishing the whisky. This particular expression was matured in casks that previously held port wine.

Nose: Woody. Sweet, dried red fruits. Maple syrup. Palate: Light and thin body. Raisins. Hints of Jamaican ginger cake or Soreen loaf. Finish: Mild barrel wood. Developing baking spices. The lingering taste is that of a tawny port with a dry tannic quality. Initially, I wasn't convinced, but it grew more complex over a short period. It's easy to dismiss this as low-quality liquor, but it has its merits.

Dried fruits and nuts are detected on the nose. The palate brings notes of dried oranges and a hint of chocolate. The finish is brief but peppery. Considering the cost, its high quality is quite surprising. Upon a second taste, the nose truly opens up with chocolate and vanilla, which then carries through to the palate.

Phoenix Crooks 3.5

The color has a faint rose tint. It offers a pleasant sweet fruity scent, a medium body, and moderate sweetness. Flavors include cinnamon, cloves, oak, and vanilla. Quite enjoyable and gentle. An effortlessly smooth drink.

Corey Nash 2.5

It has a gold color and leaves oily marks on the glass. It's smooth and supple, with nicely present red fruits and a good amount of spice. It's not extraordinary, but for under €20, it's a solid 2.5.

Valentina Clay 3.3

The aroma of port is nice, but I'm not a fan of the flavor. It's acceptable for another try. Could be a good introduction to port cask spirits.

Ahmed Coe 3.5

This is among my favorite blended Scotch whiskies. It's lighter than Naked Grouse but shares similar flavor profiles. Very enjoyable.
