The Deacon Whisky (Blended Scotch, 40% abv) Scottish flag 09/06/2024 Ankara Nose: A light smoky orange peel (citrus) on the nose. Palate: The peat influence is very strong on the palate. Distinctly sweet Orange, caramel. Smooth to drink. (Highland influence, I suspect). Finish: A smoky taste lingers on the palate. (Islay influence). Short to medium length finish. This Deacon Whisky offers a balanced smoky character and would be a great summer whisky with salty snacks when ice is added. For someone like me who enjoys Islay, it's also a light everyday whisky. 80/100

About this bottle
THE DEACON, a blended Scotch whisky, is the result of a partnership between Sovereign Brands, a family-owned wine and spirits company, and Pernod Ricard. The blend incorporates single malts sourced from Scotland's Islay and Speyside regions. Its packaging draws inspiration from traditional copper pot stills. Golden-yellow. Cloudy and plum-like. Bacon. Lacks complexity. Difficult to get past this barrier. On the palate, it's bitter, oily. Leather. Tart. Salt. A faint fruitiness appears. Finish has bitter chocolate and salt. A pipe tobacco aftertaste. With water, it opens up well, revealing cured ham. The bitterness is neutralized, highlighting the smokiness. With water, it would be a 3.5.
Melon, honeysuckle, peat, a bit smoky, and clove spice. Very enjoyable and well-balanced. Lovely silky texture. A truly engaging experience from start to finish. Light and sweet at the front, then the smoke, peat, and spice appear on the latter part of the sip. This one outperforms expectationsππΌ.
This is likely the best introduction to peated whisky within its price point. It has an earthy quality, but it's balanced by its fruity sweetness. The attractive packaging also makes it a nice gift option.
A very good blended whisky. Rich aroma and a very balanced taste. Good aftertaste. Subtle smoky notes are nicely integrated with Speyside sweetness. It will definitely remain on my shelf.
A great everyday pour! Edit: I purchased it for the bottle, which is superior to "The Sexton". The bottle itself is the best, but the plastic cap.... Seriously?
