About this bottle

The Balvenie Rum Cask 17 Year, a limited edition introduced in 2008, was primarily aged in traditional oak barrels. It was then finished in casks that had previously held Jamaican rum. This bottling has been discontinued and succeeded by the standard Caribbean Cask 14 Year expression, though it might still be found in some retail or auction settings.

Ayla Bower 5.0

As a newcomer to scotch and whisky, I thoroughly enjoyed tasting this. I haven't even tried a classic Balvenie before, but this rum cask expression was superb. That hint of sweetness and a wonderfully smooth finish made it an ideal after-dinner drink on Valentine's Day.

Teddy Son 4.5

Extremely smooth. The rum barrel imparts flavor without overpowering. It's an improved version of the 14-year-old. An outstanding scotch.

Benson Shipp 3.0

A spicy character with notes of vanilla, iodine, peat, and molasses. It is not worth the $75

Tanya Childs 3.5

A quick burn in the mouth. Maple sweetness? Some vanilla, dark fruit.

Tamia Tom 2.0

Simple flavor, rum is dominant, taste isn't complex.

Tatum Wicker 2.8

Okay. Spicier and not very sweet. Harsh finish.
