Teremana Tequila Añejo

This began as a joke, inspired by the countless Dwayne Johnson commercials seen during NHL games on ESPN. We felt compelled to sample the mana! Opting for the Anejo, given our usual preference for Irish whiskey and Rum. The mana delivered! Its copper pot distillation resulted in a wonderfully full body. All the agave citrus sweetness arrived with waves of smoke, roast, and pot still notes. We especially appreciated the liquid's viscosity and how the roast flavor enhanced a milk chocolate sweetness. Agave flavor presented first, followed by smoky sweetness and a copper pot finish. For its $45 price point, it was a solid offering. We'll try Crozo next to gauge the difference...

I'm not the biggest admirer of the Rock, but the distiller received a good rating, and it was on sale. Nose: orange candy, with some vanilla and a subtle hint of oak. Palate: Sweet and watery, delicious chocolate orange with vanilla and oak. Very little burn. Finish: Becomes a bit hot, but maintains its sweetness without being excessive. Lemon peel and agave. It's as if the Rock requested his tequila taste like a creamsicle, and they succeeded. Immensely sippable but also quite one-dimensional with the citrus candy.

A confident and spirited dark presence. The influence of the former whiskey barrel was appreciated, imparting sweetness and a familiar mouthfeel. This tequila offers complexity: initially, significant wood provides a firm, dry entrance, evolving into a layer of sweet, oak-forward richness. Hints of butterscotch, caramel, and vanilla emerge, but the dominant characteristic is abundant wood, delivering a spicy, toasted sensation. It's clearly intended for savoring; we suggest enjoying it neat with a single large ice cube.

First uncorking 🍾 Let sit for approximately 5 minutes. Appearance: Pale hay, light sunlight flecks, short legs; Aroma: Strong tequila agave smell, sugar cubes, vanilla, not much complexity; Taste: Begins with sugary goodness then shifts to the Reposado (tastes identical), not much complexity, a little dill pickle, citrus, baking soda at the end; Finish: Very short finish with some hints of vanilla, a basic end to what should have been a great drink, somewhat disappointing, Reposado would have been identical.

I'm new to tasting tequila neat (I usually drink whiskey), so this review is quite uneducated. Nose: Overwhelmingly vanilla, with faint hints of orange, though that might have been from the orange garnish I removed beforehand. Taste: It's like those chocolate-and-orange candies covered in tequila. Finish: Brief, but pleasant. Not too harsh and has a good mouthfeel. Starts oily, but thins out quickly.

Seriously, that celebrity, right? That guy knows how to pick winners! I enjoy that scent of vanilla he's got going! Smooth feel, though I'm anticipating some extra añejo years from now… The darker, the better, correct? More golden than amber, but with an easy-drinking tequila like this, it's a worthy addition to the collection. * * * *
