Templeton Bourbon Fortitude

An intense Bourbon Whiskey from Templeton Rye Distillery in Iowa, made with a mash bill of 55% Corn, 40% Rye & 5% Malted Barley. It was aged in flame-charred American Oak barrels for at least 4 years before being bottled at 46.0% ABV. It begins with an aromatic profile of grains, wood, herbs & spices; its rich & bold character adds notes of honeycomb, caramel & vanilla; concluding with a long & warm finish featuring toasted oak, cinnamon & rye spice.

Day No. 15 Reporting on this one late, though I did drink it on schedule last night. My initial impression was that it was a bit harsh going down. It initially offered corn and a honeyed flavor. I waited patiently for more complexity, but it didn't develop further. I did detect a hint of leather at times. It's definitely suitable for mixing cocktails.

I'm a big fan of Templeton Rye and usually buy their new releases. However, their first product distilled in Iowa is a bit underwhelming as expected. It has a light mouthfeel, tastes young, and lacks the depth for sipping neat. It might be better suited for cocktails.

The nose has sweet corn. The palate is oily yet light and sweet, with sweet corn and hints of honey. There's a mild spice throughout that adds pleasant warmth. The finish is decent, offering notes of malted barley and vanilla.

Advent #15. Clear golden amber liquid with thick legs. Aroma of spicy, woody tobacco. Flavor of spicy, woody, earthy tobacco. Medium-light body with moderate warmth. Scoring: 7/3/7/4/15 = 3.7

Appearance: Small particles present. Very pale yellow. Smell: Sweet. Uncomplicated. Pine. Taste: Cherry. Like corn flakes or popcorn.
