The aroma is very subdued. Even adding water doesn't bring it out much. There's a very faint trace of smoke. The initial taste is a rush of fresh orchard fruit, with vanilla and some dark chocolate developing. The finish has lingering banana notes. This whisky isn't intricate, but it's a fine illustration of the excellent Japanese specialty - the blend. They truly excel at it above all others. While I'm not a big fan of grain whisky, this is a solid (though unremarkable) pour where the malt is dominant. There are many superior blends available, but none at this price point. I would purchase it again.

The chamomile tea and lemon bread/cake notes are present, but the finish is somewhat sharp with cayenne pepper. It has a light body and feels young. Overall, considering the price point, it's worth it. A whisky to keep in your collection for mixing or sipping.

Others mention apple and vanilla on the nose. I don't get that, but I do detect pear, even like pear eau-de-vie. It's quite potent, making it somewhat difficult to discern aromas. However, I sense a subtle peat note, especially at the end, once the pear and alcohol fade, allowing other scents to emerge. I won't repurchase it; I realize it's not my kind of spirit, but it might appeal to fans of pear, apple, and botanicals.
