This bottle came from a large wine retailer, bottled at 116 proof. It presents a pale honey hue with leisurely, thick legs. Information suggests it's a 4-5 year old high rye bourbon from a well-known distillery in Indiana, prepared by the same company that bottles Barrell Bourbon in Louisville, KY. The aroma is reserved, needing 10-15 minutes to develop, and even then, it's quite subtle. This is the second serving; the initial opening occurred a couple of weeks back. The aroma and taste lack complexity, and the mouthfeel is rather delicate. Curiously, there's a lingering, sharp, peppery finish and a decent warmth. Excluding the finish, this drinks more like a weak, inexpensive offering – very subdued. I typically enjoy high rye spirits from that distillery and have been satisfied with some 4-5 year expressions (from other brands), though usually at lower proof points. I diluted this one slightly, but it didn't significantly alter the character. As it's a single barrel, it might be an anomaly, but for the price, I'm let down. On the upside, it will be excellent for my spouse's old fashioneds.

Cygnus single barrel from Molly's. Similar alcohol content as the previously mentioned bottle (I did not bother to create a separate entry). I genuinely enjoy the MGP high rye mash bill, so this appeals to me. I would consider it somewhat common, so I suggest seeking out the most affordable option with the oldest age from any NDP you can find. I'm uncertain of its price, but this is a solid example. Other Stellum single barrels I've encountered have typically been around 5 years old, and I'd estimate this is similar. I prefer this over Belle Meade Reserve, so I'll rate it slightly higher.
