About this bottle

Spring Mill Bourbon is an Indiana straight bourbon. The whiskey matures for 4 years in new, charred American oak barrels before being decanted and transferred to a second set of new, charred American oak barrels. The distillery has sold out of its 2012 and 2013 releases, with new batches currently maturing.

Given it was "twice barreled," I anticipated a certain level of complexity. However, I was significantly disappointed, especially considering the $34.99/750ml price. I sampled it both neat and with a single ice cube. Neither approach yielded much. I genuinely wanted to enjoy this bourbon. I'll give it another try with a little water. If my experience improves, I'll update this review.

Purchased in March 2018 for $22.95. To my taste, it lacks adequate aging; it resembles corn liquor more than other bourbons I've sampled. The flavor is very mild, with no bitterness, but also no depth. My preferred bourbons feature at least a 51% corn mashbill, which is why I selected this one.

This is certainly a favorite of mine. There's a recipe on their website for Bourbon Tea Punch that really brings out the character of this bourbon. It's a citrusy bourbon I'd describe as spicy sweet. It's a bit pricey for a 750ml bottle, but the flavor is well worth the cost.

Willie Sebastian 2.0

It's been a while since I tried this, but my initial impression is disappointment. It has a lot of heat, but not much flavor to accompany it. I definitely wouldn't suggest it.

Hank Estep 3.0

Sweet corn, but a pleasant flavor for its price and youth. Interesting bottle design. Appears very caramel in color and flavor.

Leeann Pate 3.0

Strong corn presence and tastes very young. I will not repurchase this. Suitable as a mixer.
