Bull's Head Bourbon

This intense, Wheated Straight Bourbon Whiskey from Newburgh, New York, made with 100% local ingredients, has a mash bill of 70% corn, 20% wheat, and 5% malted barley. It was aged 5 years in 53-gallon Independent Stave Company Cooper’s Select Oak Barrels and bottled at 45% ABV. It starts aromatically with grains, wood, fruits, herbs & spices; a bold middle features toasted corn, caramel & vanilla; concluding in a long & hot finish with oak & spiced wheat bread.

Initially, I found this 90 proof bourbon to be somewhat fiery. However, the taste was agreeable, presenting a pleasant fruity character, albeit with a slight grainy quality. I believe 'grainy' accurately describes it. Adding a few drops of water reduced the intensity of the heat somewhat but also muted the flavors. I prefer it served straight and undiluted.

Oak with a kick and toasted corn greets the senses. The mouthfeel is full and mellow, offering notes of scorched caramel, a hint of spice, caramel, and vanilla. It's an easy-drinking spirit from start to finish, maintaining a lingering spice. The sip concludes with a pleasant sweet caramel corn flavor.

The initial aroma is of sweet, toasted vanilla. The first taste is smooth, with caramel and vanilla notes. It slowly warms with a light grain spice, then settles into toasted corn flavors with a spicy conclusion.

Day No. 6 Nice vanilla and oak on the aroma. The taste had a good combination of caramel and corn/grain with an earthy undertone. Excellent served neat or in a cocktail.

From the sixth day of an advent calendar. It has a clear copper color with medium legs. The aroma is of spicy, woody oak char and vanilla. The taste is spicy vanilla, wood, and caramel. It has a medium to full body with moderate warmth. Scored 8/4/8/4/16, totaling 4.0.
