Subtle yet intricate simultaneously. The flavors do not burst forth immediately; they are like a "Where's Waldo" challenge where the more you search, the more you discover. Quite pleasant for such a young whiskey. I've stored a case in my cellar to observe its aging process.

About this bottle
Shelter Point Artisanal Single Malt Whisky is crafted from 100% malted barley grown on the distillery's 380-acre seaside property in Oyster River, BC. Following double distillation in copper pot stills, the single malt is aged in hand-selected, single-use Kentucky bourbon barrels. These barrels are immediately refilled with the whisky after being emptied and transported to the Vancouver Island distillery. It is bottled at 92 proof without chill-filtration.

Chocolate and vanilla on the nose. On the palate, you find that initial sweet note at the front. It reveals a salty character as the whisky progresses through the mouth, and concludes with a bitter citrus note. Overall, an interesting dram.
Observed color: golden yellow. Aromas of sea breeze, coconut, and pineapple greet the senses. Hints of ribbon candy and vanilla are well supported by malt, citrus, cocoa, and warm toffee. On the palate: baking spices, fruits, vanilla, and cocoa are present.
Light and approachable - an excellent entry point for single malts (and produced locally in BC!). This reminded me a lot of Ardbeg 10, just without the peat.
Aromas of baked goods, pear, and apple. Also honey. Tastes of pear and apple followed by a spicy sweetness. Smoky and oily sensation on the finish.
The aroma and taste definitely remind me of scotch, but its newness is apparent. It's delicate with some grain notes on the palate, yet it's not dull or boring.
