Saint Liberty Bertie's Bear Gulch Straight Bourbon

Warning needed! I have sampled over 200 distinct whiskeys in the past year, and this ranks as the worst or second worst (you too, Wade Lyn Ranch Barrel Proof). I would provide a more detailed review, but I do not wish to taste it again. This is the type of bottle I give to my bourbon and whiskey friends as a prank to observe their reactions. I genuinely cannot fathom that this is straight bourbon whiskey. It truly tastes as if it were combined with pure grain neutral spirit, gasoline, and perhaps the liquid from the bottom of the trash can? It is extremely difficult to identify these flavors while feeling nauseous. I suppose I must leave that task to a more daring whiskey connoisseur.

The narratives behind Saint Liberty bottles honor historical women. While it's a nice tribute and marketing strategy, the spirit is what truly matters, so let's give it a try. The nose is quite funky, reminiscent of a 70's B-movie soundtrack. I'm genuinely stumped by this one. There's no brown sugar or vanilla, only funk. The first sip is muddled, to be honest. Some vanilla, some leather, some charring, but nothing stands out. The finish is a bit underwhelming and leaves a slightly burned taste. In my opinion, the overall pour isn't worth the cost, but at least the bottle looks cool!

Furthermore, I am submitting a second review. I strongly suspect that all the initial five-star ratings are highly questionable. One review exclusively features five-star ratings for St Liberty's, and no other spirits. Another includes two five-star ratings for Bertie's out of a total of four reviews, with no other entries. I find it difficult to believe that any discerning drinker would consider this a five-star product.

Distinctly different from other Texas bourbons I've sampled. Features dark molasses at the start, followed by burnt brown sugar, a touch of vanilla and stone fruit, with a hint of smoke. Exceptionally smooth, without the initial harshness found in other Texas Bourbons.

I love it. The spirit is interesting and unlike anything else I've experienced. The corn is forward, and the rye provides a spicy finish. The bottle is cool, and the story about the woman who inspired it is great.

A distinctly unique bourbon. I truly appreciated the flavor, with ample caramel and a smoky finish. It leaves a pleasant sensation in your mouth that is not overly harsh, but warm.
