Pipers Clan Blended Scotch Whisky

Rating: 3/23 Based solely on the label, my expectations were low for this scotch. And they were certainly met. N: Wow, I'd like to think that's peat on the nose, but it's really just sulfur and alcohol. Quite unpleasant. I'm trying to find anything else, but there's not much there. Maybe a hint of oil. Some hay if I'm being generous. Perhaps a faint hint of apple skins. It's light and unappealing. P: So much sulfur! There's some harshness with pepper and a sweet minerality that almost suggests fruit, but it has only a vague floral character. Then, loads of alcohol and a strong artificial caramel flavor. It's awful. I truly never wish to drink this again. There's something slightly earthy, and maybe something that could vaguely resemble stone fruit, but I don't care. This is awful. F: The finish emphasizes the alcohol, the sulfur, and the harshness. Yay. This is disgusting. It tastes like it aspires to be Grant's but falls far short. It belongs in the same category as Glen Logie and Clan MacGregor. Avoid this under all circumstances, as the sulfur is nearly impossible to mask. At least Glen Logie can be reasonably disguised. In comparison, Grant's Triple Wood tastes rich and complex, with pleasant fruity apple notes and significantly less sulfur. This essentially tastes like someone poured a lot of sulfur into some poor-quality vodka. It's substantially less harsh than Glen Logie, but I'm not sure it's better given the awful sulfur content; I'd say there's slightly less to redeem this than Glen Logie, as I can't even imagine using this as a mixer. It would be less miserable to drink a large quantity neat as it's less harsh, but it would still be miserable. The highest I can imagine is a 4, but realistically it's closer to a 3. I'll settle on a 3 for now. It's absolutely absurd that this costs $12. I wouldn't pay 2 bucks for another bottle.
