Pinhook Rye'd On

Let it sit for about 5 minutes. Appearance: Medium-pale copper tinge with legs; Smell: Very fresh spearmint, the young rye notes are prominent, with nutmeg and other baking spices on the back end, and fresh apple at the finish; Taste: Tastes exactly like it smells (like chewing mint gum), a definite creaminess can be felt, spicy at the back end, unlike any rye I've experienced before, this must be the taste of young rye; Finish: A bit lingering, the creamy mouthfeel persists, you might want to cleanse your palate before trying something else, minty aftertaste.

Nose - Lemongrass and spiced apples. No prominent rye notes. Mild and somewhat buttery. On the palate, there's a gentle fruitiness with the apple coming through, and the rye makes a subtle appearance after the apple on the front. Then, a hint of tobacco after it fades. It concludes just shy of perfection. Almost long enough to create a lasting impression, but then it fades. Crisp and dry at the end. This would be an excellent choice for a leisurely summer day outdoors, regardless of the occasion. I eagerly anticipate how this will evolve after aging for another four years.

Nose: Rye spice and a subtle note of fresh mint, raw honey, caramel apple, with faint cereal undertones. Palate: Caramel apples are the initial taste, fading into rye spice. The barrel contributes a slight vanilla on the finish. Finish: Extended, substantial, and chewy. A respectable rye, though I believe it could benefit from more time to mature. Shows promise from Pinhook and Castle & Key.

Nose: Young, light apple blossoms. Taste: An effervescent, grassy quality hits you first, followed by a tangy fruitiness with a medium spice and rye. It has a youthful quality. Finish: The tanginess persists, but it's not a lengthy finish. A little spice and warmth remain with you.

I do enjoy this, and it's very easy to drink considering its 48.5% ABV. I'm getting a clove spice with a grassy, almost dill-like note that I noticed on the nose and immediately taste. A nice whiskey!
