Compared to less mature bottlings from the same year, I suspect this has aged too long in oak. It possesses considerable complexity, yet it doesn't quite captivate me. While faint caramel notes are present, any sweetness or vibrant fruitiness is overpowered by a woody, ashy character. It's a bit less full-bodied than I prefer, and the finish doesn't evolve as much as I'd like. I'll try it again after it has had time to breathe.
