About this bottle

The Lesgourgues family has managed this family-run estate exclusively since 1974, with the estate itself dating back to 1870. They oversee all aspects of production, from grape cultivation to barrel aging and even cooper their own barrels. This Hors d'Âge expression is predominantly made from the baco grape and is a mix of more than 15 eaux de vie, aged from 12 to 20 years in Gascon oak.

I sampled the Intemporel No. 5, which is said to be made from brandies aged 20-30 years. Whatever. The aroma changes significantly; initially, it presents big, toasty sugar flavors, almost like a full-bodied rum. It then transitions to baked pears and brighter apple candy notes. The taste was a surprise; it wasn't nearly as sweet as anticipated. A bit dry with noticeable wood tannins, reminiscent of sweet tobacco leaf with a backing of apple and grape candy. It evokes an aged calvados more than a grape-based brandy. Quite excellent.

An exquisite Hors D'Âge Bas Armagnac from Chateau de Laubade, noticeably shaped by the Baco grapes in its composition, alongside Ugni Blanc, Colombard, and Folle Blanche. It presents a fragrant beginning with notes of candied fruits, spice, prune, and rancio, leading to a rich and complex journey that concludes with a long, balanced finish. Reviewed August 2017.

Truly enjoyed this. Perhaps something different for a bourbon enthusiast. A pleasant after-dinner beverage that is exceptionally smooth, even for a brandy.

I've only tried a couple of cognacs before. Now it's time for an Armagnac. Magnificent! It has fruity, floral, and spicy notes with a nice touch of oak.
