Uriah Sherman 1.5

Aroma - caramel, raisin, vanilla, floral notes, allspice, fig, with a moderate ethanol burn. Taste - slightly fermented grape, vanilla, yeast, clove, spoiled meat, bitter herbal notes, with a moderate alcohol bite. The finish is quick, featuring fermented grape, yeast, and bitter herbal flavors. This is not good. I began this review with a predisposition not to like it, as I rarely have a positive experience with VS cognac. This exceeded my negative expectations. The aroma is the best aspect. Dried fruit, floral, and caramel notes are present, but they are very faint and struggle for attention against the ethanol. Things take a sharp downturn on the palate. Rotting grape and bready flavors are mixed with a background of industrial spoiled meat notes that I sometimes detect in particularly unpleasant blended malts. This is bad. Avoid purchasing it, unless you need a mixing cognac and have a very limited budget. Even then, there are superior options in the same price range within the category.

Janette Mullen 3.5

A subtle Brandy from Cognac, France, with an aromatic beginning featuring notes of dried fruits, wood, flowers, herbs & spices. Its rich development adds flavors of grape, pear, raisins, prune & dried apricot, leading to a smooth & balanced finish of medium length with hints of French oak, vanilla & a light smokiness.
