Paul Masson VS Grande Amber Brandy

The aroma has pear, cherry, spice, and perhaps a bit of orange. It's pleasant but mild. The taste features an unpleasant, overly sweet caramel flavor that dominates. There's also a strange mushroom note. It's somewhat like Corralejo Reposado, but cloying. In fact, they are quite similar, but the syrupy sweetness of this is excessive. The fruit flavors also seem artificial, with a distinct grape jelly taste that's hard to ignore. The spices come through strongly, reminiscent of Christmas, with a tingling sensation rather than heat. It's quite bad. It's difficult to convey how much worse it is than Hennessy VS and E&J XO. There's an odd honey flavor with some bitterness and mushrooms. It has hints of tar and gasoline. Some caramel and vanilla provide a nice creaminess, but it's not convincing as brandy. It's too sweet and too bitterly mushroomy simultaneously. This doesn't taste genuine. It's truly terrible.

In a Hennessy snifter, the aroma was undetectable, just something sweet. Perhaps some candy... The sip is spicy, sweet, and smooth. Remarkably enjoyable to sip for the price. I'm curious to compare it with Courvoisier and Hennessy VS. I suspect it would earn a solid bronze medal, if not surpass them both. That concludes my review for now....And the end of this 200ml bottle.;-)

Nose - banana, vanilla cream, Nilla Wafer, toffee, brown sugar, cherry, grape, strong ethanol burn. Taste - brown sugar, banana, vanilla, toffee, grape, cherry, cinnamon, sharp barrel spice, strong alcohol bite, finishing rapidly with artificial vanilla, caramel, and spicy oak flavors. It's artificial and overly sweet, and hot. Definitely not meant for sipping.

Considering its modest price, it's quite good. It lacks complexity, but I'm judging it for what it is. I frequently use it for infusions, cooking, and making cocktails. It's not terrible for sipping, just not bold or refined. I do find it surprisingly smooth for a $22 1.75 L bottle. A good staple for a bar.

A gentle aroma of grape/wine with notes of nutty oak, hints of vanilla and fruit. The palate is smooth but turns peppery and spicy, with mild fruity grapes and a reminder of grape juice. Hints of vanilla and woody oak are present, creating a rich and nutty character. It has a thick, viscous mouthfeel, finishing with spicy fruity grape, vanilla, and oak. Tasted neat.

I explored the budget-friendly brandy category again, trying this well-regarded Paul Masson selection. It was adequate. It offered pleasant flavors and lingered on the glass nicely, but its flavors lacked the vibrancy of E&J XO brandy. Considering its price, it's a decent value; I did appreciate the flavors, and it costs $13 in my area.
