The nose has floral and anise notes, appearing clear in the glass with coating legs. In the mouth, it's viscous but not excessively sweet. Strong anise and herbal flavors dominate, with a touch of pepper and warmth in the finish. The aftertaste continues similarly, with a slight sour grape note. When ice or water is added, it becomes cloudy and milky white, the flavor sweetens (still distinctly anise) with reduced sharpness. I've been consuming this intermittently since the 1970s. An appreciation for anise is essential.
