Old Overholt 11 Year Straight Rye

An absolutely wonderful serving. I finished another bottle of this in roughly three weeks, which is incredibly quick for my habits. Its taste and feel are reminiscent of a premium Four Roses. Smooth and sleek on the palate, beginning with creme brulee or brown sugar notes, then introducing a mild touch of rye spice. The predominant quality of this drink is its richness, not its heat, with orchard fruit notes subtly present in the background. The conclusion is moderately long, but its deliciousness compels continuous refills. This spirit is like a wise elder whose pronouncements demand attention – insightful and never overbearing or bold. This bottle amplifies the subtle merits of the Overholt Bottled-in-Bond, articulating them with assurance, clarity, and grace. It ranks among my most cherished beverages from 2020.

Appears as a typical coppery orange. The aroma is wonderful, full of spice box, a really nice earthy quality, and some oaky brown sugar. The flavor mirrors the aroma, with abundant spice, the earthy character becoming more pronounced, perhaps a touch of maple and brown sugar, but it concludes with a slight bitterness (which is a positive!). The texture is medium-bodied, not too strong for this novice beer drinker's palate, and quite easy to enjoy. Overall, quite excellent! Thoughts from a beer enthusiast: I'm unaware of any Old Overholt barrel-aged beers (and a quick look reveals nothing), but I believe these 11-year-old barrels would be superb in a stout or even a barleywine...

Abundant rye and spice with a moderate finish. Cherry cola notes are detectable, but primarily grains and spice. It's solid, though I'm uncertain if it surpasses the bonded or standard Overholts initially. Poured from the neck... it's good but not outstanding.

The aroma presents notes of brown sugar and smoky grains, concluding with a fruity essence. There's a hint of spice, accompanied by subtle corn and a pronounced cherry flavor. The finish is bittersweet with dark cherry, lingering for several minutes.

A very enjoyable pour. It's quickly becoming one of my favorite releases from 2020. It has warm oak and vanilla notes, balanced by just enough black pepper and allspice to remind you it's a rye.
