About this bottle
This rye from Old Overholt, which is extra-aged and cask strength, was put into barrels in the fall of 2012. It matured for 11 years in four different warehouses located in Clermont, Kentucky. The whiskey is bottled unfiltered at 107.4 proof and will be available across the US in restricted amounts starting in the fall of 2024. (SRP $99)

DRANK NEAT
AROMA - Notes of caramel, vanilla, and oranges. There's also the slightest trace of spice.
PALATE - While not overly intricate on the palate, it is exceptionally well-balanced. It drinks like a sweet, smooth bourbon on the palate, featuring rich caramel and vanilla with a buttery texture.
FINISH - The finish reveals its rye character. It's quite lengthy, with notes of oak and rye spice.
SHOULD YOU BUY? Yes. Not as impressive as last year's, but still a worthwhile purchase.
BUY AGAIN? - I believe I would repurchase the 10-year before the 11-year. Nevertheless, I still anticipate the 12-year this year.

Smell: Pronounced vanilla, bright citrus, pleasant oak
Taste: Very delicate on the palate, almost watery in consistency. A lovely mild oak develops alongside citrus, smooth caramel, and the rye spice begins to emerge with a hint of minty black pepper
Finish: An extended, gentle rye finish. Despite its thinness on the palate, the finish persists for quite some time. Cinnamon, fennel, and black pepper invite another gentle, sweet sip.

This bottle has become a favorite recently. It's wonderfully balanced and incredibly smooth. What's the proof? It drinks like a $100 bottle should. A delicate, toasty oak undertone is present in both the scent and flavor. Atop that, you'll find notes of caramel apple, crystallized citrus peel, and an herbal rye bread and crust character. Everything is just right.

Nose: peach ring, allspice, apple, nutmeg. Palate: drinks like a bourbon, could fool me that this is a rye. Finish: Jim Beam nutty finish with some oak and a hint of rye spice. Chocolate. Subdued, wish it was a little stronger. 6 on the t8ke scale. Need to revisit in a week.

The color is a medium dark honey amber. It smells of malt, caramel, nougat, bread dough, and spice. The flavors mirror the aroma, with a medium sweetness and a more pronounced rye bread dough character. There's a slight warmth in the finish. Quite pleasant. I regret not being able to acquire more.
