Phillip Abernathy 3.5

The nose is similar to other American whiskies I've encountered. Burnt popcorn kernels, a touch of ethanol, and some sweetness I can't quite identify. The palate is dry, with vanilla cream sweetness. It took a few sips, but it eventually grew on me. The finish is quite long, with a very manageable burn at 131 proof and plenty of oak flavors, making it the best aspect of the pour. Having tried a handful of American whiskies, I haven't been a big fan. Old Carter definitely steps things up, but ultimately, it's just not my preference. It reminds me of Irish whiskies in a way that doesn't usually suit me. I can understand why many people enjoy this style of whiskey, but for me, it doesn't provide the same satisfaction as bourbon or rye.

Genesis Barrientos 4.5

Tastes like cream soda, vanilla, and lots of deeply toasted oak. The finish is amazing. Lingering oak, vanilla, and cream with some pleasant black pepper notes. Hints of almond appear occasionally.

Alva Kyle 4.5

Intricate notes of spicy caramel.
