Off Hours Bourbon

Nose: Creamy butterscotch, vanilla, cornbread, lemon poppyseed muffin, wax, and dried fruit. This is one of the most unusual aromas I've encountered in a bourbon. I'm somewhat uncertain about my reaction to it. Palate: Dried corn, vanilla cake, lemon muffin, dried apricots, nuts, with a hint of baking spice and dried fruit. Again, very unusual. It doesn't fit the typical bourbon profile; it's more like a dessert whiskey if such a category existed. Finish: Medium length, with notes of dried corn, vanilla, lemon cake, and dried fruit fading into a farm-like hay aroma mixed with some minerality and banana taffy... truly peculiar.

The aroma is buttery and caramel, but the taste is rather bland with a burn akin to vodka. It's smooth, yet the slight burn is pleasant. I was told it resembles Buffalo Trace, but at nearly double the price, I find the taste to be half as good and not worth the expense. I'm content to have tried it, but not impressed.

Subtle aroma with hints of pine. A strong caramel entry, followed by bitterness from the mid-palate to the finish. It thins out considerably, resulting in a very light finish. Overall, the caramel aroma was appealing, but I would not choose to drink this deliberately. One out of five stars.
