Northside Distilling Co Bourbon Whiskey

Neat. Sample. I'm not sure where to categorize this tasting, so this will do. This is a sample from a blend labeled "Lot Bee." The name likely refers to its honey barrel finish. It's also MGP, aged 6.5 years. I'm expecting to really enjoy this... Oh, the honey! The aroma is overwhelmingly honey. It's fascinating how the honey transforms the MGP characteristics, bringing out the butterscotch while pushing the rye to the background. There's a lot of honey graham cracker and a touch of apple. Overall, it's light, bright, and sweet. At 6.5 years, the typical young MGP notes are absent, which is fantastic. The mouthfeel is deliciously creamy. Wow, that's immediately pleasing. It's like having pure butterscotch syrup poured into my mouth, continuously. While it lacks depth, there's graham cracker in the middle and a hint of chocolate on the finish. The rest is a non-stop wave of butterscotch. This is an intense pour. I've actually had to step away from it. It's so rich that I can't just gulp it down; I need to savor each delicious sip. It occupies an unusual space: it's a one-note whiskey, but that note is so good I can't fault it. I'm getting closer to understanding the high regard for Belle Meade Honey.

Subtle cinnamon, honey, and some pronounced vanilla on the nose. More vanilla and sweetness on the palate, very oily and rich. A pleasant finish that doesn't last long at all. Incredibly rich and creamy.

Very smooth, a bit too sweet for my preference and not quite spicy enough. There's a slight bitterness right at the very end. Nevertheless, I definitely plan on purchasing this again!

Not particularly smooth, quite grainy. It's acceptable, but rather unremarkable.
