Yoichi, one of Nikka's two distilleries, is situated in the northern Hokkaido region. This location was chosen in 1934 by the 'Father of Japanese Whisky' for its climate, geography, and abundant resources. This 2000's Single Malt is a rare blend of malt whiskies distilled around the turn of the century and bottled in 2009. The whisky is offered in 500ml bottles at its cask strength of 57% ABV.

This Yoichi displays interesting Japanese spice, smokiness, and some sherry character. Nose: Raisins, Salted Honey, Cherries, Apricots, Caramel, Sakura, Barbecue Pork Ribs, Sweet and Sour Soup Palate: Iodine, Vanilla, Honey, Almonds, Plums, Ginger, Sandalwood, Orange Peels, Peaches, Salted Caramel Finish: Raisins, Honey, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Vanilla, Cherries
Aroma: woody with hints of saltiness. Some buttery and peppery notes. Palate: intense saltiness, with peat. Complex flavors involving oakiness, buttery notes, and saltiness. It then transitions to a peppery finish.
A good whiskey. I liked it better with a large ice cube. Not as good as the 1990’s and certainly not as good as the Yoichi 15.
A very expressive whiskey from Yoichi. Floral and fruity with a rich finish.
Notes of apple, lychee, cream, and honey.
