Norway's inaugural peated whisky was aged for 3 years in 40-liter seasoned Oloroso casks, bottled at 47% ABV, and presented with a craft aesthetic. It doesn't present as overtly young; the nose begins with chimney soot, dried fruits, and cured lamb. Hints of rosemary, stockfish, and sweet cherries add layers of complexity. Peat smoke, orange zest, and abundant pepper characterize the aromatic and herbal-fresh taste of this young spirit. With a salty undertone of licorice and fading wood smoke, the finish resolves into raspberry sweetness. At 3 years old, this is a remarkably solid dram from Myken.
