Mount Gay XO Triple Cask Blend

A sophisticated, Dark Rum from Mount Gay Distilleries Ltd in Barbados, created by Master Distiller Allen Smith. It was produced using both pot and column stills, then matured for 5 to 17 years in ex-Bourbon, ex-Whiskey, and ex-Cognac casks. Bottled at 43% ABV. It opens with a fragrant bouquet of flamed orange peel, mulling spices, and humidor. The middle palate is delicate and creamy, revealing notes of mango, raw sugarcane, plantain, cloves, and warm oak. It concludes with a moderately long, warm, and spicy finish featuring hints of pepper and toffee. March / April / December 2021

Grabbed this at the local Total Wine and More. First sniff: potent baking spice, followed by subtle vanilla and oak. It tastes creamy with vanilla and spice. The finish is fruity with a faint, lingering warmth.

First time sipping rum. This was good. Caramel and vanilla on the nose. Nice flavors with a bit of sweetness followed by a bit of spice on a medium finish. I would drink this one again.

A pleasant spicy oak and sweet caramel on the nose. The palate offers oak spice, a bourbon-like quality, cinnamon, and a touch of banana. The finish has notes of baking spice and caramel.

The aromas are brown sugar, toffee with hints of vanilla, nutmeats and nutmeg. The flavors are similar to but not quite as interesting as the aromas. Smooth but a bit bland.

A grainy, bourbon-like aroma with spice. Rich caramel, vanilla, and oak are present. It's bold from start to finish. A fantastic rum for sipping straight; my preferred option from this distillery.
