Moonshiner Margaret Street Signature Gin

Aroma: Delicate and refined. Juniper, coriander, some citrus, and a peppery note form the base. It strongly resembles a traditional gin scent. Flavor & Texture: More potent than the aroma suggests, displaying a well-balanced blend of orange and lime zest (prominently featuring native finger-lime), red fruit, and a hint of white pepper. Complex juniper notes are consistently present, and the texture is crisp yet slightly creamy. The appearance is perfectly clear. Catching up on my backlog of reviews with some brief assessments. This is a small distillery located in the suburbs of Sydney, which my partner and I visited in March 2023. We sampled four gins, served both straight and with suggested garnishes and mixers. This particular gin was presented with an optional dried lime wafer and Fever Tree Indian tonic water. We really enjoyed this gin, and it was our second favorite of the day, surpassed only by the distillery's Aussie Native Gin. We purchased a bottle, and subsequent home use has led me to appreciate it even more; it's now my top choice from this distillery's range. It possesses classic balance and composition, with juniper and coriander clearly detectable, yet it also has a distinct character due to the inclusion of native botanicals (finger lime, Dorrigo pepper, and lemon myrtle are all noticeable). It's a versatile and elegant gin packed with interesting flavors and has good length. My only critique is that it matches the quality of many other fine contemporary Australian gins and lacks that unique quality that would make it truly stand out.
