Spyros Metaxa relocated to Piraeus, Greece, in 1880 with his siblings to establish Metaxa, aiming to produce smooth, aromatic spirits using a traditional approach. Master distiller Constantinos Raptis crafts the annual small-batch Metaxa Private Reserve using aged components from Metaxa's own cellars. This full-bodied brandy matures for up to 30 years in Limousin oak barrels. The 2017 release features a redesigned decanter within a gift box, bearing Raptis's signature on the label.

The aroma presents stonefruit, honey, gentle vanilla from the cask, and fruity notes of cherry, berries, and raisins. The palate is elegant with field flowers, red fruit, and cherries. The finish lingers with hints of redcurrant, pear, and cherries. The flavor persists even after drinking coffee.
