This whisky, named "Rindo" (meaning "gentian" in Japanese, a flower found near the distillery), is part of the "Nature of Shinshu" series, which highlights the surrounding Japanese landscape of the Shinshu Mars distillery. Komagatake Rindo is matured in a blend of ex-bourbon, sherry, and Japanese wine barrels, and is presented at 52% ABV, bottled at cask strength.

The subtle, clean smokiness is highly appealing. You can sense the presence of young whiskey. I actually appreciate the oiliness because it doesn't sting when I let it coat my mouth. The palate might be a bit weak, but the finish is very clean. It's somewhat difficult to find, but I strongly endorse it.
I'm a fan of the Mars Komagatake series. The distinctions between each release are evident and intriguing, yet they possess a unifying quality that allows them to be recognized as a collection. This is precise whiskey craftsmanship, highly enjoyable to sample and contrast.
03/30/19 at Jin’s birthday, Bar Leather had a special called “the break even”. I enjoyed it. Highly drinkable, light in color. Peat, oil, and a sweetness.
