I finished this bottle alongside a side-by-side comparison with mmcs 22-01. They presented quite similarly, though the 22-01 is 109.7 proof and a full-sized bottle. Both offered a sweet wheat and dark fruit aroma. The 21-04's taste featured brown sugar and plums with a touch of ethanol, possessing a slight chewiness characteristic of wheat. It was somewhat subdued but enjoyable. The finish was tingly and numb. Rated 4. The 22-01's taste was much fuller and richer, with more pronounced sugared dark fruit flavor and almost no ethanol. It remained pleasantly chewy with a sweet, mildly numbing finish. Rated 4.25. I acquired three bottles of the 22-01 for $30 each and am very pleased. I don't require a 120 proof; sometimes those are too intense. 110 proof is ideal for me. It's remarkable how superior the cask strength version is compared to the standard Mm. I even believe I prefer it over the 46 cask strength as well.

As its name indicates, it is bottled at cask strength, typically ranging between 108-114 proof. Minimal filtering is done to eliminate wood pieces, but it is not chill-filtered, resulting in a more robust flavor and higher proof. This cask strength version serves as the foundation for other Maker's Mark Wood Finishing expressions. Batch 21-04 is bottled at 109.4 proof.
