A powerful yet mild aroma greets you, offering spice and sweetness, reminiscent of the balanced profile of the standard Maker’s Mark but with added depth and richness. The gamble of creating a cask strength version has certainly paid off. It starts fruity and floral, with dried apples and cherries alongside hibiscus tea sweetened with dark agave nectar. Some barrel char contributes soft cinnamon and chocolate notes, along with occasional hints of sour dill pickle and eucalyptus. Finally, dark corn/pancake syrup and vanilla emerge, accompanied by a touch of limoncello. It's hot on the palate, as expected at barrel proof, but not excessively so. It's sweet, but not overwhelmingly so. Caramelized fruits, particularly apples and oranges, mingle with dried chili peppers and cinnamon. Medium-bodied and smooth, displaying legs that form sheets resembling inverted pyramids before breaking into dispersed droplets. The medium finish is dry and slightly tannic.
