Daxton Watt 4.5

I made an unplanned stop on my way to Ohio to visit this craft distillery. The main appeal for me was, of course, the opportunity to sample a peated bourbon. Initially, the establishment's appearance is impressive, and I appreciated learning the background of the branding. The distiller and family were present that day for bottling and were incredibly welcoming hosts. They guided me through the tasting and even shared a sip with me to exchange impressions. The distiller is genuinely enthusiastic and knowledgeable about his work, experimenting not only with peat but also with a distinctive bloody butcher corn. This crimson corn imparted a pleasantly creamy texture to all their whiskey, along with a leathery, earthy note that distinguishes it from typical off-the-shelf brands. I wish to personally thank the distillery for sharing their enthusiasm and for a taste of a cask-strength honey barrel (incredible!). They've gained a supporter, and I'll be observing their progress as their whiskey matures. Oh, and the peated bourbon met expectations.

Kory Larson 4.5

A pleasant, sweet, clean-drinking bourbon. Chocolate notes are present on the nose. Earthy corn notes are found on the palate. The wheat in the grain bill contributes to a well-rounded flavor, which, along with the charred new oak barrels, nicely complements the dominant corn. Likely aged around two years and bottled at approximately 55% ABV. An excellent and very reasonably priced bourbon.

I recently had the pleasure of touring the distillery. It's a beautiful place with a great history. As far as I know, the only "Kentucky style" rickhouse is in Pennsylvania. This tasting has earned a new supporter for Liberty Pole. The high rye bourbon and the rye are truly excellent.

Lane Horton 1.0

Complete garbage. This has a powerful tequila-like nose and palate. I'll let it rest and try it again after it's been open for a while.

Lidia Krebs 5.0

An excellent wheated bourbon that evokes thoughts of Weller. It's complex and generally outstanding.

Donald Kay 3.5

Smells like hay, it's pretty good but not outstanding.
