When making Cuba Libres, I generally favor rums that impart character to the mixture rather than simply providing a neutral flavor. This particular rum falls into the former category. Only a small amount is necessary to detect its presence. It possesses a sharp, not overly sweet profile, and I would describe it as slightly smoky. Matusalem Añejo and Havana 7 could be comparable options, with the former being considerably more affordable. Acquired for 20€ in Spain.

The color resembles steeped tea. It has aromas of caramel and citrus. Initially, it's quite spirited; it needs ample time to breathe, after which tea notes and a hint of wood emerge. The body is quite oily. In flavor, there's caramel, wormwood, a touch of citrus, and also a medicinal taste, like that used for dental treatment. The aftertaste is bitter. Quite spirited. The flavor is weaker than the aroma.

This rum stings going down and is rather bland. It possesses a touch of sweetness, reminiscent of Legendario Elixir de Cuba, yet it's rougher. I won't seek it out for purchase, but it's an acceptable diversion from my usual rum occasionally.

Nose: sugary, tangerine and a hint of spearmint, clove Palate: sugary, with some heat Finish: coating, piquant, woody, lingering This 9-year-old bottling is unremarkable, neither good nor bad.

Anita Lowery 4.3

A rather intriguing rum. The aroma presents a light sweetness, molasses, dried fruits, raisins, vanilla, and spices. Excellent enjoyed neat. It pairs wonderfully with a fine cigar.

Mario Hostetler 3.3

Pleasant, interesting, sweet, dried fruit
