Knappogue Castle 1990

This was a 2oz sample from the 1993 vintage. It was provided to me by an online retailer due to an error with a previous order I placed. It has a pale yellow color and is very thin in the Glencairn glass. The aroma is weak vanilla and barley, with faint oak providing the underlying structure. The taste is smooth and slightly sweet. Flavors of candied corn, vanilla, and a little warmth. The finish is quick and without burn. Very smooth. In summary, there's nothing remarkable here. It's smooth and somewhat sweet, and would likely be well masked in any cocktail requiring whiskey. It doesn't need to be drunk neat. There's also no reason to purchase a bottle. 2-2.5 stars. Enjoy.

Knappogue Castle 1990 stands out as the most mellow whiskey of any type I've ever consumed. A companion and I finished a bottle on New Year's Eve and experienced no ill effects the following day, aside from thirst. That was two decades ago, though, and the memory fades. It's light and fruity with a subtle caramel essence.

Tastes like cherry cough syrup. It's acceptable but I don't feel the need to purchase a full bottle. For context, my 2oz sample came from a 1994 bottling.

Flavors are very subtle. The palate has grassy vanilla notes. The finish offers oak and fruit.

The 1995 vintage was pleasantly sweet and smooth, with minimal burn, making it quite enjoyable.

Cooley malt makes its presence known again. A quality Irish spirit, provided you can locate it.
