About this bottle

King Robert II is a blended Scotch whisky produced by Ian Macleod Distillers, a family-owned Scottish independent distiller, blender, and bottler that also manages brands such as Glengoyne, Tamdhu, and Rosebank. This specific bottling is a blend of single malt and grain whiskies, with a minimum age of 15 years, sourced from the Islands, Highlands, Lowlands, and Speyside regions. The brand underwent a packaging redesign in 2022. This 15 Year Blended Scotch Whisky is one of three brand expressions slated for US release in June 2023, with a suggested retail price of $28.99.

I sampled King Robert's 15-year Scotch blend, and it was a significant letdown. It consisted of approximately 95% 15-year-old grain whiskey and only about 5% 15-year-old Scotch malt whiskey. The aroma was rather neutral, with just a hint of red raspberries, apples, oak, and ethanol. The initial taste was smooth, but the palate was very one-dimensional, featuring only a note of toffee and sugar. The finish was brief, with hints of cinnamon and just a trace of cocoa.
