The idea of being aged at sea intrigued me, but I was uncertain if I'd notice any real differences. After my initial tasting, I'm convinced. On the nose, I detected sweetness and fruit. The aroma was pleasant but unremarkable, typical of a bourbon. The taste, however, is where it truly excels. Upon hitting the palate, there's immediate sweetness and smoothness, with caramel flavors leading, accompanied by a slight oiliness. In contrast, the finish is spicy and subtly smoky. The aftertaste has a faint resemblance to a blended scotch.

About this bottle
Bourbons in the Jefferson's Ocean Aged At Sea collection typically spend six to eight years aging on land before their barrels undergo several months of sea travel. The usual journey involves visiting five continents and approximately 30 ports. However, for Voyage 24, the barrels embarked on an unprecedented route, visiting only Caribbean and Central American ports, exposing them to high temperatures throughout the trip.

The nose is light with hints of caramel, orange, and cinnamon. The taste begins with an immediate ether sensation that suggests a strong impact but doesn't deliver. As the ether fades, flavors of caramel, vanilla, orange, green apple, and cloves emerge. Finish: A medium to long finish with notes of toffee and roasted marshmallows, plus a hint of leather. The green apples eventually transition back to a chemical, ether-like flavor. It warms up quickly, develops into a pleasant flavor, and leaves a lasting impression.
Appearance: A deep copper color, resembling toffee or caramel. Good clarity. Aroma: Initially sweet, followed by oak and vanilla, with perhaps a hint of citrus. Taste: Spice upfront, quickly transitioning to a lasting sweetness. Minimal burn for its strength, with pleasant notes of vanilla, butterscotch, and maybe a trace of lavender - it becomes smoother with a few drops of water. The finish is pleasant with no lingering burn. A very enjoyable pour! Possibly my top choice for its price.
AROMA Oaky, caramel, leather, dried fruit, Bananas Foster, vanilla, baking spice, and slightly biscuity. A solid standard bourbon, nothing groundbreaking, but enjoyable. TASTE Oaky, caramel, baking spice, Bananas Foster, vanilla, baking spice, biscuity, toasted nuts. On the better side of standard bourbon, nice, but not exceptional. FINISH Moderate length with notes of banana, oak, caramel, and nuts.
Chocolate and citrus on the nose. The first sip has no initial burn, but it intensifies and provides a good lingering sensation and a surprising finish. Black pepper and char are the most noticeable. Adding ice reduces the burn and makes it more enjoyable.
A pleasant briny aroma that carries through to the taste. Similar to the Voyage 23… a nice pour with some spice and brininess. Good for a change of pace and an easy drinker. Not sweet, so it hits the spot occasionally.
