Jameson Irish Whiskey

Review #11 - Whisk(e)y #7 Nose - Light, welcoming, with primary notes of vanilla and honey. Subtle hints of peppery spice and citrus are also present. Palate - Sweet, quite smooth, and has an oily texture. Vanilla and honey are dominant, but with significantly more pronounced spiciness that can sometimes be overwhelming. A touch of oakiness is also detected. Finish - Short to medium length, pleasant, light, and sweet, still carrying a spicy element. This is a good whiskey for its price point, superior to Bushmills Original, but considerably less impressive than Bushmills Black Bush. I also believe I would prefer Tullamore Dew, primarily because of its less intense spiciness and more refined character. Jameson represents the quintessential Irish Whiskey, a must-try for everyone at least one time. It presents a flavor combination of spice, nuts, and vanilla, underscored by a whisper of sherry. This whiskey isn't overwhelming, though it might be considered too straightforward for a sophisticated drinker. If you prefer your whiskey neat and desire a more intricate Irish option, consider Teeling Small Batch. It costs approximately $10 more per bottle. I haven't yet reviewed Jameson Triple Triple or Jameson Black Barrel. Both carry a higher cost and have likely undergone a longer aging process. I enjoy Jameson. Sometimes, a straightforward whiskey is exactly what I'm looking for, and Jameson satisfies that craving. As a component in mixed drinks, the Jameson Ginger and Lime offers a revitalizing beverage. One measure of Jameson, three measures of Ginger Ale (Fever-Tree Ginger Beer is a solid suggestion), and a lime wedge. Salud!

I haven't had Jameson white label in ages, and I remember why. Plenty of superior choices exist within Irish whiskey at this cost. Any whiskey should avoid a strong rubbing alcohol presence, but harsh vodka hits me first on the nose and tongue. The Middleton distillery is clearly using aged and depleted casks. Brand loyalty is a strong force. It's the only explanation I can think of for people drinking this regularly.
