Jack Daniel's Eric Church Single Barrel Select

The aroma is sweet and woody, exactly like a banana split with the finest vanilla ice cream you can get. Hints of leather and smoke lie behind it all, but primarily it comes across as a dessert. The taste is very smooth, with wood and vanilla ice cream immediately carrying over. Bananas and dark chocolate follow, as the notes of smoke and leather are very subtle in the background but do indeed complete everything. This is a very mild and gentle offering of Jack Daniels single barrel, allowing you to spend more time with the creamier and sweeter notes. The finish is medium, unfortunately losing steam too soon. The mouth stays full of wood and vanilla ice cream as it all comes to a conclusion.

Opening the bottle reveals subdued notes of banana, vanilla, and spice. The palate offers caramel and gentle oak. The finish is sweet and smooth. It has less banana than Gentleman Jack but offers greater depth. While vanilla and caramel are noticeable, they take a backseat to the brown sugar sweetness and banana. It’s harmonious, with added warmth and spice, showing it's more than standard JD but in some respects smoother than JD SB. I'm unsure if it surpasses Single Barrel, but it's distinct enough to warrant sampling if you enjoy JD SB and encounter it in stores. If not, this won't convert you. I do know it's absolutely not worth $100, much less the $300-400 prices I've seen listed on secondary markets.

Nose: A very spicy aroma. Thin caramel accompanied by many peanuts. Palate: A very thin palate with more pronounced peanuts. It doesn't feel oily, just thin. Significant spice as well. The palate is very similar to the nose. Finish: Some vanilla and caramel, but the finish is somewhat brief. Overall: The bottle is visually appealing, the artist is cool, and Jack Daniels is cool. The bourbon inside? It's almost cool. I haven't had the standard single barrel select in a while, but this didn't particularly impress me. Oh well! Cool bottle.

I generally enjoy JD SB, but this had a distinct flavor profile. It's the first whiskey I can recall having a persistent banana note. The texture on the palate was pleasant, though the initial taste on the tongue wasn't remarkable. It drinks smoothly, whether neat or on the rocks. It bears a resemblance to some of the younger spirits from small craft distilleries I've sampled. I would opt for another JD offering before this expression from EC. Fortunately, I paid fifty-five dollars for it, not the hundred-dollar price tag I observed previously.

A pleasant, subtle tangerine scent, reminiscent of very ripe watermelon. A pronounced caramel note. Extremely smooth to consume. Silky texture, initially cool and sweet. A gentle warmth at the conclusion, with a lengthy finish and lingering taste. I savored it neat and considered it a very good serving.

Seriously, bananas. The aroma is unmistakably banana. The taste? Not so much, but it's damn delicious. This is easily my most-liked JD to date. I'd grab two more if they were in stock. A bit of heat, but with ice, it becomes a pleasant, sweet beverage that vanishes far too fast.
