Isle of Skye 8 Year

Initially, this presented with an overwhelming artificial smoke that felt tacked onto a neutral blend. With time, it began to resemble a more polished Johnnie Walker Red. It has since settled into a noticeably smoky blend with minimal harshness and a pleasant warming sensation. The smoke and Speyside characteristics aren't perfectly unified, but it's forgivable. Enjoyable enough for sipping, and an incredible bargain for the cost.

Honeyed malt is present, along with moderate peat and a soft mouthfeel, suggesting a high malt proportion in the blend. This resembles Johnny Walker Black, though I prefer this. It lacks the complexity of a 12-16 year old single malt finished in sherry casks. However, if you desire a Scotch that showcases its natural maltiness with full flavor and a rather long, smooth finish, this blend could be for you. I exclusively drink it neat.

A pleasant and flavorful peated Scotch blend. A noticeable amount of Talisker malt is present. Light smoke appears first on the aroma and taste, followed by honey, vanilla, and oak notes. It has a rather malty character overall. A smooth and light blend. The finish is quite long and smoky. A nice fusion of Speyside and Islands characteristics. Excellent value for the money. Highly recommended for those who enjoy peated blends.

The initial taste is smooth, followed by a palate of smoke, peat, and heather. The finish is brief, with a touch of bitter spice. It drinks well neat but is not advised to dilute with water or soda.

Note: Despite lacking complexity, this was a very likable Scotch for moments when a light yet flavorful option was desired.

Yes, the unmistakable flavor of Skye/Talisker is present, but it's undermined by the brutally young age and all the unrefined notes of chalk, celery, and yeast that come with it—which are hopelessly masked by artificial, caramel-like, painfully sweet flavors.
