Ironclad Small Batch Bourbon

Served neat in a Glencairn at my place. The bottle cost me $30.89 after a 20% discount. Batch 29, Bottle 118, filled on 3/15/19. On the nose: some black pepper, charcoal, smoke, and mild clove. The taste presents oak, banana peel, clove, and mild spice. The finish is rather short and dusty. Meh. 9/5/19.

Golden straw color with numerous medium-viscosity legs. The aroma is hot, with barnyard funk and char. A bit unrefined. The mouthfeel is soft and thin. It starts sweet and corn-forward, followed by dry oak, an unusual chocolate note, and cardboard. The finish is burnt caramel.

Far too sweet when drunk straight. Smells like mothballs. Reminds me of my grandparents' house. It needs some thinning out and other flavor notes, but it's too costly to mix.

Oak, amaretto, and vanilla on the nose. Sharp, woody, and spicy on the palate. About twenty minutes later, I start thinking intensely about butterscotch.

Sweeter than anticipated. The smell suggested a stronger kick than what was delivered. Needs more exploration.

I sampled Ironclad alongside Four Roses small batch and Bulleit bourbon. Out of the three, Ironclad was my favorite.
