A neighbor gave me this bottle, and I must say, it's potent at 120 Proof! It begins with an intense burst of spice, accompanied by significant leather and tobacco notes. With a rather oily texture, it concludes with just a subtle hint of honey and dark caramel. There's a smoky element that contributes more of a peatiness than a distinct smoke flavor, somewhat like a peated Scotch or Irish whiskey. A few drops of water slightly mellow it, but ice is a better companion, in my opinion.

Sampled at an event, so consider my notes with caution. Tasted neat. Color is indistinguishable from 80 proof. Nose is more subtle than 80 proof. On the palate, this isn't bad. Reminds me of Benchmark barrel proof. Was told it's an $80 bottle. Hard pass for the price. Unfortunately, this is a 3-star whiskey with a 5-star price. 2 stars is generous.
The aroma suggests pastry dough. It has youthful wood, BBQ sauce, a touch of clove, and smoked s'mores. I'm interested to see how age will further develop it.
It doesn't feel like it's 120 proof. Smooth, rich, and a delightful mouthfeel.
A bit rough yet enjoyable neat
