Iron Shoe Bourbon

The distillery is known for sourcing all its ingredients within a 10-mile radius, which I've always found to be both a clever marketing tactic and genuinely appealing. It's a truly local spirit, and that's a source of pride for them. However, people mistakenly assume this local origin automatically makes it superior or warrants leniency in evaluation. That's not the case. The aroma is bready and grainy. It's unprocessed. It's immature. The body has a low level of heat but also subdued flavors. It presents as bread, yeast, wood, and a hint of caramel. The finish offers cinnamon and more grain. This is an unobjectionable, straightforward spirit. Nothing remarkable, but they also avoided any significant missteps. I believe it would benefit from more time aging in wood. Charging $50 for a bottle is outrageous, though perhaps a local might splurge out of pride. I likely won't taste this again, and I'm not bothered by that prospect.

Floral aroma. Very sweet and fruit-forward, with fig and dried fruit notes, finishing with a nutty character.
