Hunter & Scott Bourbon Whiskey

Summary review from Virginia Spirits Expo: Described as, " the younger brother of Reservoir’s premium whiskies." At an age of 18 months it certainly is. However, it should be noted that Hunter & Scott is a blend of both sourced barrels from KY and IN as well as their own new make- so the age most likely reflects the younger distillate. On the nose there's cherry and a sweet fruity candy like Jujyfruits. The palate has Green Apple and finishes with a youthful grain. It's a good start- would love to see this blended with older new make over time.

Reservoir's signature single grain (corn, naturally) truly shines in their higher-priced offerings. While this particular bottle has grown on me, it still possesses a bit too much sharpness for its low proof. Light vanilla notes are present on the nose and palate, with little else to discern. The finish gradually mellows with each sip. For a price point of $35-40, there are many alternatives I would prefer. However, as a resident of Richmond, it's gratifying to support local businesses.

Too potent and lacking the complexity for genuine bourbon. It's sharp at the beginning and end, with good spice, but it needs more depth. Even when mixed, this bourbon falls short. The producer reportedly used rapid aging with heat and cooling cycles, which isn't true aging as suggested on the label. This is evident in the final product.

Pleasant taste without a harsh burn. The smell has hints of vanilla and is somewhat medicinal. The flavor starts fruity, like a sweeter cherry variant, and finishes with mild spicy rye. Adding ice intensifies this spirit significantly.

Not very strong. Vanilla and citrus scents are faint on the nose and require effort to detect. The palate also has weak flavors. There's no lingering finish. It's smooth with barely any heat. I'd suggest it for a mixed drink where bourbon isn't the main ingredient.

This one has a really unusual taste. It's smooth, but the bitter, plastic-like flavor is quite unpleasant. I'm not sure what occurred here. It tastes extremely young. I'm not a fan. 2 out of 10.
